The Women in Farming Expo which is slated for May 27th in Gaborone at Serokolwane Lawns is set to empower and educate women in the Agribusiness sector through seminars, workshops, and networking.
The project which is the brain child of Pearl Gaone Ranna, the managing director of Unitech Farming, will bring together relevant stakeholders in the Agricultural industry to support women who wish to expand their Agribusiness.
Apart from women, male farmers are also expected to throng the event.
“They too have a major impact in food production for Botswana,” Ranna reasoned.
The outdoor event will educate farmers on the importance of agriculture in the country as Botswana is currently over dependant on neighbouring South Africa for food and basic commodities. Botswana imports tomatoes, cabbages, milk and maize meal from South Africa to feed its population of approximately two million.
Minister of Agriculture Patrick Ralotsia will grace the occasion as guest speaker alongside other dignitaries, amongst them, the Director of Gender Affairs Department under the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs.
Tickets for the event are being sold at all Computicket stores nationwide including Shoprite, U Save, OK Furnitures and Checkers for P80 a single ticket and P150 for a double ticket.
Children 12 years old and below pay P40 at the gate while 3 year olds and below will enter the event free of charge.
A press briefing session for the event is to be held at Botswana Craft next week Thursday.
