A two-year-old boy was found dead in a pool of blood, allegedly after his father cut his throat.
Police say the suspected perpetrator appears to have committed suicide after the horrific incident.
Speaking to The Telegraph this week, the Station Commander of Palapye Police Station, Frankile Mohutsewa, confirmed the incident.
“My station is investigating a case in which a father, aged 45, allegedly murdered his two-year-old boy by cutting his throat,” said Mohutsewa.
He added that the prime suspect was later found hanging from a nearby tree on the same day, adding that police do not suspect foul play in the death of the man.
He said the incident occurred on Saturday at Leboana cattle post, just outside Palapye and the two bodies are at Palapye Hospital mortuary where post-mortems will be conducted to determine the causes of death.
Mohutsewa said preliminary investigations have revealed that before the incident, the couple apparently had some heated argument that possibly contributed to the killing of the little boy.
“I am not in a position to reveal what might have led the couple to engage in such an argument because investigations have just commenced to establish the motive behind the argument as well as to find out what might have led the suspect to murder his own son,” said Mohutsewa.
