Every year the festive season brings with it a whole lot of fun filled activities for both the young and the old, and 2015 is by no means an anomaly. Here is your guide to some of the finest music festivals taking place near you.
HOME COMING CONCERT: This is an annual concert held in Mahalapye on Christmas Eve that always features Botswana’s SA export Dj Fresh among a rich line up of other Djs and artists.
This year’s list will include, Dj Fresh, Cassper Nyovest, Dj Christos, Vinny Da Vinci, Dj Merlon & Mondli Ngcobo, Naak Musiq, TadeMark & Zinhle Ngidi, Mobi Dixon Team Distant, and LaTimmy among others.
Still on Christmas Eve Palapye will play host to the annual Clap Your Hands festival at the Majestic Five Hotel featuring Malinga, Busiswa, Mr Style, Prince Kaybe, Dj Dimplez, Mr O, Skizo, Sasa Klaas, Dramaboi, MMP Family, Franix etc.
On December 25, Serowe will host the annual Pop Bottles music festival with Scar, Sasa Klaas, Dramaboi, Zeus, amongst others.
Not to be outdone, Tonota will also host the first BoRangolo music festival featuring Drama Boi, Scar, Juju Boy and T.H.A.B.O, amongst many. Holding it down on the decks will be Dj Crispin, Dj Gouveia, Dj Oats, and others.
On December 31st GICC will host the return of some of the best Djs this country has ever produced with the likes of Dj Choto, Robbie Rob, Mr O, Easy B, Traxx and Shimboy. Kanye will also welcome 2016 with a bang as the annual Ga Maila festival returns featuring over 20 local and international artists and Djs.
Gaborone will host the annual Streethorn’s Jazz Picnic at Wagga Gardens (Glen Valley) on New Year’s Day. It is an annual family fun day held on the first Saturday of January. The Jazz picnic caters to the outdoor music entertainment needs of mature adults, their families and jazz enthusiasts by providing them with an opportunity to unwind as they start a new year. The event began in 2013 as ‘Botswana’s Top Jazz Djs Family Fun Day’ and has since been rebranded to Streethorn’s Jazz Picnic. The event will feature jazz music played by Botswana’s top azz DJs: Sala, Milton,Peter T,Uncle Shima (Gabs FM), Sk Duma FM) , Harry (RB2), and McJohn.
Also on January 1st, 2016 will be the return of Bak2Skul for the umpteenth time featuring a host of local and international artists and Djs. It will take place at Serokolwane Farms.
