Former deputy BoB Governor Motshidisi lands at Barclays

The former Deputy Governor at Bank of Botswana, Oduetse Motshidisi has joined Barclays Bank of Botswana as one of the newly appointed independent non-executive directors of the Board of Directors.

Motshidisi left the Central Bank in January 2016 after serving the Bank for a period of 27 years, fifteen of which he was Deputy Governor.

Before his departure, he was counted amongst the top contenders to replace the former BoB Governor Linah Mohohlo who recently retired from the bank.

Motshidisi was appointed to the position of Deputy Governor with effect from February 1, 2001 ÔÇô taking over the arching responsibility for supervising the Financial Markets, Banking Supervision, Accounting and Administration Departments.

Amongst other things, Motshidisi ensured the deployment of locals in top post at some of the leading commercial banks.

He was also viewed by many in the banking industry as the potential next Governor as he is believed to have brought good developments to the bank despite challenging economic landscape.

Meanwhile Barclays Bank also confirmed that Motshidisi will join the board along side Tobias Mynhardt of Cash Bazaar.

Mynhardt holds the University of Cape Town Bachelor’s Degree, Commerce as well as London School of Economics & Political Science Master’s Degree, Economics.

The two have kick-started their new roles joining the board Chairman Rizwan Desai, Alfred Dube, Lawrence Maika, Kenneth Molosi as well as the bank’s Managing Director, Reinette Van Der Merwe and finance director – Mumba Kalifungwa.
