GU heavy axe lingers over Makwengwe’s head

Time may be running out for Philemon Makwengwe at the helm of Gaborone United as head coach following his suspension a fortnight ago.

The coach’s uncertain future emanates from his utterances during a press conference that did not please his superiors.

“This serves to inform the membership and the football fraternity that the coach’s disciplinary hearing was held this morning but adjourned to next week Wednesdays” GU wrote on its facebook page.

According to the allegations within the GU circle, the team’s leadership is not in a good relationship with the coach and want to show him the door.

Contacted for comment, Boitumelo ‘Breakdown’ Nsunge denied allegations that they want to fire the coach.

“I am unable to comment on what transpired because it is an internal matter between the employer and employee. We cannot engage third party on internal matters” said Nsunge.

He further dismissed allegations that disciplinary hearing are just a formality to legitimize the process of firing him.

“We are not firing the coach. The hearing will continue on Wednesday. The team is still paying the coach a full salary and for people to come with unfounded allegations that we are firing the coach are not true and baseless” explained Breakdown.

“When you hired me you did not tell me that there are other teams, you said we play Township Rollers, Security Systems and BR Highlanders you did not tell me there is Morupole Wanders and Jwaneng Galaxy I had problems with them” this is what Makwengwe said during press conference prior to their match with struggling Notwane. The team’s management did not wait for the weekend encounter but decided to sideline him and put Pontsho Moloi to stand in his absence. Notwane was between 2 nil.

The utterances are said to have angered the management and felt the coach is undermining them and also undermining other premier league teams.

Da Phil is commonly called within football circles came joined the team in the midway after the team parted ways with Coach Madinda Ndlovu due to ill health. The team is currently under Coach Piro Moloi.
