Gunners rise from the ashes

Arguably the “whipping boys” of Botswana’s St Louis Rugby league, EMG Gunners of Selebi-Phikwe last weekend showed that one who writes them off does that at their own peril. Gunners hammered a hapless BDF Sharks 20-9.

What made this Gunners victory remarkable is the fact that they did it away from home.
The man who did the damage for Gunners was their evergreen number 7, Moageledi Swato. The phenomenal player’s main attributes are power and pace and these he used to good effect.

BDF Cheetahs coach, Gareth Gilbert, who watched the game, said that Gunners were improving with every game that they play.

“Their fitness level is gradually improving. They might have learnt a thing or two from their loss to Cheetahs the other week,” said Gilbert.

This was Gunners’ first win since the league started.

In the other game played in Francistown, Champions elect BDF Cheetahs consolidated their winning streak when they made mince meat out of Francistown Tuskers.
The Gaborone soldiers butchered Tuskers 29-3.

Cheetahs now lead the log standings with 19 points. Gaborone Hogs are second with 13 points.

BDF Sharks lie dangerously at the basement of the log with no point at all. The ever-improving Gunners sit in the penultimate position with 4 points.
