Former President Ian Khama’s recent surprise return to Botswana reportedly threw the Botswana Defense Force (BDF) into a state of heightened alert.
Soldiers were instructed not to leave their bases on Friday, September 13, 2024, as Khama made his first public appearance in the country in nearly three years. Sources close to the BDF revealed that soldiers were only released from their posts after receiving confirmation that Khama had returned to South Africa.
