How Masire, Mogae, Khama, Masisi used budget to win elections

Sunday Standard used open sources to track how Botswana president, from Sir Ketumile Masire right up to President Mokgweetsi Masisi tried to use the national fiscal policy to win elections. Further investigations however suggest that the four presidents’ election-motivated fiscal policies did not exactly enhanced their chances of re-election. 

The investigation relied heavily on a research report by local consultancy firm Econsult, which has come up with details confirming speculations that Botswana’s fiscal policy has over the years been used by different presidents as an electioneering tool.
