When negotiations’ best brains conduct a post mortem to determine where the Botswana and De Beers deal was lost and won, they are likely to converge where President Mokgweetsi Masisi said: “My way or the highway.”

In a stunt that had industry watchers almost eating up their nails, Masisi threatened to walk away from the partnership with De Beers unless he got his way – not  once but many times, and using a language that suggested that he really meant it.
