The first ever UK Education Expo is set to be held in Botswana under the auspices of the British Council and The British High Commission.
British Council is an International Organisation for Educational Opportunities and Cultural Relations and they value Equal Opportunities and Diversity in Education.
Boitumelo Kgangetsile, the Projects Coordinator of the British Council, told The Sunday Standard that “the objective of the Expo is to showcase UK Education opportunities and give students an opportunity to obtain as much information as possible on studying in the UK or embarking on UK distance learning programmes, which will enhance their skills for employability”.
“There is a high demand in Botswana for UK Education so we hope through this Expo people will be able to interact.”
She added that local institutions that have shown interest in partnering with UK institutions will have an opportunity to discuss and know more.
Kgangetsile said about six UK institutions have confirmed that they will be coming to exhibit. These include London School of Commerce, Royal Veterinary College, Coventry University, CIMA, ACCA and John Luke and Associates International Education consultants will be representing more than 42 institutions.
Also, 15 UK institutions will be represented by local representatives. These include University of South Hampton, University of Essex, University of Northampton, amongst others. Expected to come in to exhibit are five examination bodies.
“If this expo becomes successful we are looking forward to having the expo on an annual basis,” said Kgangetsile, adding that “we hope that through the exhibition, partnerships with UK training institutions will be established”.
The British Council has always had a desire to upgrade the lifestyle and learning needs of young African Professionals.
The Expo will be held at the Gaborone Sun from 9am to 5pm and admission is free to students, parents, serving officers and sponsors.
Local training institutions are all invited.
