Standard Chartered Bank has, once again, ensured that golfers are not left in the lurch by sponsoring a four- day golf open tournament to the tune of P45 000. This will take place on September 22-25.
The golf spectacular promises to be a real treat because some of the country’s top golfers will be on show. All eyes will be on defending champion, Shin, who is expected to pull all stops to retain his medal.
Shin will not have it easy though. The sensational Phenyo Lekgoa is expected to give him the most resistance. Lekgoa has proved to be an exciting prospect over the last year. He only needs to work on his consistency as he has that inclination of blowing hot and cold.
At the recent Sowa Open, Lekgoa was out of sorts, something he will have to remedy as a matter of urgency against the likes of Shin.
Other top contenders will be Mula Keabetswe and Mpho Kelosiwang. The duo has shown that, on their day, they can take anybody to the cleaners. They have previously claimed the scalps of highly rated players when least expected.
The event is structured into two categories, the A and B division. The tournament has attracted a lot of attention. Over 200 players are expected but only 150 can play. The cut-off will be based on the first day’s performance to trim the participants to 100 players.
The first day of the event will also be a fun day, including kids’ jumping castle.
Over the years, the Botswana Golf Union has integrated adult activities with kids’ activities. This is clearly part of their vision to attract the young ones to the golfing family.
