Botswana’s annual inflation rate ticked up to 4.1 percent in January 2026, from 3.9 percent in December, signalling renewed price pressures at the start of the year, according to Statistics Botswana .
The increase was driven largely by transport, which contributed 1.6 percentage points to the annual rate, followed by Miscellaneous Goods & Services and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages, each adding 0.9 of a percentage point. Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels exerted a moderating effect, shaving off 0.4 of a percentage point from overall inflation.
