Internal squabbles are once more threatening to divide TAFIC Sporting Club as their dream of turning the club into a company seem to be going down the drain.
Just over a month ago, chairman Humphrey Nawa, resigned citing personal reasons for his departure. A new interim committee was elected which is led by Gilbert Makombo but things have not improved.
While results are improving on the field of play with Machimenyenga having recorded no loss in five games before their fixture against BMC in Lobatse yesterday, it seems the TAFIC family is divided with the other group rallying behind Nawa while others believe in the new regime.
After their 1-1 draw before a paltry crowd at Francistown Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, Makombo did not hide his disappointment at the way things are turning out at the northern giants.
“We have been doing our best to get things to normal since we took over but it seems we’re not winning. It is my wish to work with the previous committee but they have not been cooperative something which is not pleasing the supporters. The old committee has not officially handed the club’s documents to us and it makes life difficult for us to operate under the circumstances. What makes matters worse is that we’ve heard of their resignation from the media as they have not served us with any letters,” said Makombo.
There is no doubt that Makombo is a frustrated man as it is written over his face. He said the current state of affairs at the club is chasing potential sponsors away. He pointed out that they are working around the clock to stabilize things.
“TAFIC have a huge history and it is upon us the supporters to ensure that we take it forward. I have been talking to the supporters to calm down as we continue to try retrieve all the club’s documents. What is important is for the supporters to continue rallying behind the club,” he added.
The differences within the TAFIC’s family is said to have reached a boiling point on Wednesday night.
It is reported that the Makombo-led committee accuse the previous regime of tarnishing their names in the media. Makombo told this publication that he is aware of some people who are trying to bring their ship down but pointed out that they will continue working hard in ensure that they achieve their dreams.
The fuming chairman added that he is aware of some committee members who are even trying to turn the players against them. The players are said to have written a letter demanding the interim committee resigns to pave the way for Nawa and his charges.
The players are yet to serve Makombo with the letter because one of the players is still to sign it.
“We are not happy at the way the current committee is doing things. We know that TAFIC is struggling financially but we were better off in the past committee,” said one of the players who did not want to be named for fear victimization.
