The JB Sports and Botswana Volleyball Federation relationship is a short term one, according to the contract signed. JB Sports has agreed to sponsor the women volleyball league for only one season, Volleyball Sports Development Officer, Mission Mereyotlhe, told Sunday Standard Sport.
The above stance effectively means that there is uncertainty in the Women Volleyball league taking place next season as that will depend on the availability of sponsorship.
“It is true that JB Sports have committed to a short term tie with us. We do not know what will happen afterwards,” said Mereyotlhe.
The Volleyball federation, recently voted sport code of the year has never had a problem acquiring sponsorship.
Under the tutelage of flamboyant University of Botswana lecturer, the table to keep the fires burning. Mosweu has never minced his words when talking about his desire to keep volleyball players active even if there Sesupo Mosweu, who is also the zone six volleyball president, it is hoped that come next season, there will be something on is no sponsorship for the league. Earlier in the year, when the federation was having it tough securing sponsorship for the league, Mosweu advocated that mini-tournaments be organised to keep the players active. He believes mini-tournaments are cheaper to sponsor and will therefore always get someone willing to sponsor them. Asked about the amount that goes with the women’s league sponsorship this season, Mereyotlhe declined to divulge. Reliable sources, however, put the sponsorship to the tune of P50 000. The women Volleyball league action started yesterday with defending champions Mafolofolo pitted against Spiking Stars. BDF VI played Kutlwano. At the time of going to press, the results of the two encounters had not been confirmed.
