Sua Flamingoes coach Nikola Kavazović has dismissed as untrue allegations that he has been suspended by the club. The Serbian born coach says there is no animosity between him and the club management.
Contacted for comment, the coach said he was surprised at the rumours which suggested a rift between him and his employers. He even went on to reveal that he is ready to extend his contract until July 2028.
“Your questions really surprised me… I am the Head Coach of my beloved Sua Flamingoes until July 2026. Absolutely nobody has suspended me. My superiors understood my health problems, and I am currently on sick leave,” he explained.
Rumours of his suspension took root this past Wednesday as he was a notable absentee from the bench during his team’s 3-3 draw against Orapa United. “It was very difficult for me to miss the Orapa United match, where we dropped two golden points. I still hope to be with my boys tomorrow in Palapye against Morupule.”
“Today I am finishing my antibiotics and will go for a check-up. In the worst-case scenario, I’ll be back to lead the team in the final league game against Lobatse Extension Gunners,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kavazović emphasized he was committed to the Sua Flamingoes project. “All my plans are tied to Sua Flamingoes. We are even finalizing a new contract until July 2028. All terms and conditions have been agreed.”
“I will remain Head Coach of Sua Flamingoes for the next three years. With God’s grace, I hope to bring continental football to our beloved Sowa community,” he confirmed.
Kavazović, who said he does not follow social media, regarded the rumours of his suspension as mere fabrications. “I don’t follow social media, but people have been sending me articles. I understand that some must feed their families by writing tabloid stories. I feel sorry for them and pray for them because they are instructed to write lies. It is a mortal sin. Let God forgive them, and let our Lord Jesus Christ judge those who spread gossip,” he said firmly.
He also explicitly dismissed allegations of insubordination levelled against him. “All my superiors — Mr. Thebe and Mr. Matikiti — will confirm that I have never refused to follow club directives. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be having the most successful season in the club’s 35-year history. Without our excellent communication, this team would be fighting relegation, not among the teams that are doing well in the season and fighting for the title — which I humbly believe will come next season,” he added.
On speculation linking him with a move to Jwaneng Galaxy, Kavazović denied any engagement. “Since I left Jwaneng four years ago, I’ve had no contact with them. Me, my superiors, and the people at Galaxy all know what is true and what is false.”
He concluded by reminding critics of his legacy. “People forget that I am the coach who led Jwaneng Galaxy to their first championship title, which paved the way for their later success. I have a name in Botswana. Statistically, Mr. Morena Ramoreboli and I are the most successful coaches in the history of Botswana football. I don’t owe anyone explanations.”
