Khama names Brain Dithebe acting CEO of BTO

The Minister for Environment Wildlife and Tourism Tshekedi Khama has appointed Brain Dithebe as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Botswana Tourism Organisation.

Dithebe has been the BTO Director Projects and Business Operations and takes over from Myra Sekgororoane who leaves the organisation at the end of the year.

He assumes the new role at a time when the boardroom chairs are empty as the organisation operates without a Board of Directors due to non renewal of contracts of more than half of board members including the Board Chairman Victor Senye.

Contacted for comment on Friday, Khama referred this publication to BTO for further details.

BTO top post became vacant after the contract of Sekgororoane was not renewed. Asked where she is heading to, she said “I need a break first before making any move and before I make any decision. If any opportunity comes I will go for it”.

She also earlier expressed confidence in the BTO executive management that she has been working with. “Some of them have acted on many occasions as CEO during my absence handled the organisation very well”

Media speculations are that Sekgororoane has a few choices of high profile job offers one of them being the Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) which has been running for over a year without a substantive CEO or being one of government Coordinator.

The government has already started looking for substantive CEO for the organisation that is tasked with planning, developing and implementing tourism marketing and promotion strategies for Botswana.
