Khama should chose friends carefully

Events of the last two weeks during which the former president General Ian Khama Seretse Khama was arrested and detained in Luanda, Angola for eight hours were humiliating and frustrating to say the least. Instead of rolling out a red carpet for him, they outstretched up their hand cuffs. But from the look of things, Angola may not apologize for their actions. It is not that they did not know who he is. It was that they saw his visit as undesarable.  The question is why didn’t they deny him visa to enter their country while still at home in Gaborone?  The answer is yes they wanted him humiliated because perhaps they considered him an undesirable element. Come on man, Khama had been there before without eyebrows being raised. It was the purpose of that visit which annoyed the Angolans. Khama had gone there at the invitation of main opposition party, UNITA. Besides the international conference on democratic issues which he was due to attend, he was also to attend UNITA’s 59th anniversary celebrations.  The conference was organized by Brenthurst Foundation. Following his arrest and detention for eight hours, Khama appeared on social media explaining that he had gone to that country to attend an international conference on democratic issues. He did not give the foundation’s profile. He looked clearly hurt and disoriented.
