Khama won’t be able to get rid of Kgosi Serogola

Next to President Mokgweetsi Masisi, the second target in the sights of General Ian Khama is the Acting Bangwato Regent, Kgosi Serogola Seretse.

Khama and Masisi fell out in 2018, on the very day that the former made way for the latter. Khama has publicly made it very clear that he wants to oust Masisi from office and being an election year, 2024 provides such opportunity. As a civil servant and like Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane before him, Serogola has been caught in the crossfire. Unlike Kgamane, Serogola has made the pragmatic (and beneficial) choice of seeking cover in Masisi’s corner. This has irked Khama who, as Bangwato Kgosi, appointed Serogola as Deputy Kgosi but now wants to remove him from office. Khama made such intent very clear through a recorded message that was played to a public meeting that was held at the Serowe kgotla on December 3, 2022.
