Lausmore Masa Square hotel complete

The Luxurious multimillion pula destination, Lausmore Five Star Hotel under the Lonrho stable, is finally completed and is situated in the city centre of Gaborone.

It is expected to open its doors next month (March).

Speaking to Sunday Standard, Lonrho Hotel General Manager, Jonathan Patterson, said the new hotel intends to offer state of the art conference facilities as well as lovely one stop shop experience. He said the hotel group came to Botswana because there is a huge potential market, adding that Gaborone has a lot of corporate movement as well as leisure market. Patterson said they are ready to compete with the local and international market on a bigger scale and attract a whole new type of tourists to Gaborone.

“Our objective is to provide guest satisfaction while increasing employee morale and develop the coaching skills of managers and supervisors. The group also operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Zimbabwe,” he said.

Patterson also said that the hotel is expected to employ 156 fulltime employees and, of that, only four managerial positions will be held by expatriates.

The hotel has 153 rooms, which are suites and club, including eight conference rooms, a variety of restaurants, a swimming pool on the third floor of the hotel, as well as Esprett in-house specialist coffee bar.

“The previous operator here could not fulfill the required standards and Lonrho took over,” said Patterson.

He said Lausmore Masa Square seeks to boast tourism in Botswana and added that, as a new product, they intend to be the best hotel in the country as they have the structure. He said they have good facilities beyond client’s expectations. He further said Lonrho has been in Africa for over a hundred years and they are excited about this opportunity to set up the new luxury hotel brand.
“Competition is good and we want it and we are next to a chain of restaurants in the compound. London Stock Exchange-listed Lonrho operates in five industry sectors that include infrastructure, transport, agribusiness, hotels and support services,” he explained.

Masa Square contains a number of internationally branded restaurants and retail boutiques in addition to a multiplex cinema and a casino.

The luxurious Masa Centre at the new Gaborone Central Business District (CBD) will open doors in three weeks following conclusion of a 15-year lease between developers RDC Properties and international hospitality group Lonrho Hotels recently.
