The Law Society of Botswana wishes to congratulate the Honorable Chief Justice Mr. Maruping Dibotelo on his recent appointment as Chief Justice of the Republic of Botswana. The announcement was received with satisfaction by the Society as it is indeed well deserved.
The appointment comes at a time when the rule of law and dispensation of justice have increasingly taken centre stage and are becoming central to the lives of Batswana. The Society believes that the appointment is opportune as Justice Dibotelo’s legendary fairness, strong-willed disposition, ability to balance firmness with fairness will ensure that the Rule of Law thrives. The afore-mentioned attributes will no doubt also ultimately endear the Administration of Justice to all and sundry and ensure that the society’s trust in the Judiciary is enhanced.
The Law Society is further confident that Justice Dibotelo’s organisational prowess, as displayed when he championed implementation of Judicial Case Management, will benefit the Department of Administration of Justice as it seeks to transform itself to meet the ever changing challenges of dispensing of justice.
The Law Society of Botswana notes with deference the Chief Justice’s trade mark humility and wish it will continue and thus ensure that he remains accessible to all, including but not limited to his staff, stakeholders of the judiciary and the public at large.
Finally, we take this opportunity to wish the former Chief Justice Rre Nganunu speedy recovery and a fulfilling retirement. We are confident that he is not lost to the legal profession and justice in Botswana and look forward to his continuing contribution in these areas.
