Law Society delists 12 law firms

The Law Society of Botswana (LSB) has delisted twelve non-compliant law firms and has warned members of the public from engaging their services.

In a statement issued on the July 5th, the Law Society says the legal practitioners (attorneys and advocates) “do not hold current and/or valid practicing certificates and are therefore not entitled to practice.”

The LSB also said the firms are not members of the Law Society of Botswana as they do not hold valid Practicing Certificates. “Members of the public are therefore advised against using the services offered by these attorneys and further cautioned that should they continue to deal with them they would be doing so at their own risk and do not have recourse to the Law Society,” read part of the statement.

Among those that have been delisted are Bernard Bolele former MP for Mahalapye West and Modise Melusi David who was implicated in the murder of late Fairgrounds Holdings CEO Michael Montshiwa in 2015.

The 10 other delisted law firms are  Chris du Plessis Attorneys, Mosweu and Co. Legal Practice, Ngomme Segwagwa Attorneys, Luke and Associates, K. P Mokwena and Partners, Ian Kebopetswe Attorneys, Motsau & Associates and Ozoo Legal Practice.

The LSB further states: “In terms of Section 56 (a) of the same Act, the membership of the Law Society of Botswana shall comprise amongst others of a person who is admitted as an Attorney or Advocate and, except where exempt, holds a Practicing Certificate.”
