Lesetedi appointed UNICEF Audit Committee Chairperson

Lesedi Lesetedi who is a local Internal Auditor has been appointed the Chairperson of the UNICEF Audit Committee. The appointment follows a recent meeting that Lesetedi attended which was held at the UNICEF headquarters in New York. Lesetedi first joined the UNICEF Audit Committee in February, 2013 and the FAO Audit Committee in April, 2013. She was recently appointed the Chairperson of the FAO Audit Committee which is headquartered at Rome, Italy.

Whilst in New York, Lesetedi made a presentation at the 75th IIA international conference. Industry players noted this week that the New York trip in July was good for Lesetedi as she was also elected as the Director-at-Large for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Board  headquartered in Florida, USA. What is common for all these appointments is that these are governance bodies at the helm of corporate governance, strategic planning, risk management, internal controls and auditing with the aim to enhance organizational performance and achievement of goals.

Lesetedi is not new to the kind of high level responsibilities. Prior to this appointment, she was the international secretary as part of the Executive Committee of the IIA Global Board and also chaired the African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA) for 4 years being an umbrella body for the internal auditors’ institutes in Africa where she is currently a Governing Council member as the immediate past President. She was also the President of IIA Botswana for 7 years.

Lesetedi is a professional Internal Auditor who has been a chief Audit Executive within Government as she headed the internal audit function at the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, Ministry of Lands and Housing and the Ministry of State President.

Currently she is the Director of Internal Audit at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).

Lesetedi is the first IIA Botswana lady President, first and only AFIIA lady President, first and only African lady being IIA Global Director-at-Large and Board member, as well as the first and only African lady in the Executive Committee of the IIA Global Board.
