Letaamoreng‘s new Coaching position raises eyebrows

After serving Police XI as a player for many years, Maitumelo Junior Letaamoreng did not completely quit football upon hanging up his boots. He chose to be a coach, a position he served as an assistant for several years, even coaching in the lower division.

Following the retirement of long serving coach for Police XI, Sthandwa Mogwadi, Letaamoreng took the challenge for being the number one coach of the team. He did not disappoint in his first season as Police XI finished in a reputable sixth position. After this achievement, Letaamoreng received numerous accolades with people praising him as an excellent coach.

Since Letaamoreng is a local coach, he was considered the right candidate to inspire other local coaches to believe in themselves. It however came as a surprise when it was announced that Police XI have roped in a new coach from Zambia, Maxwell Moyo to lead the team, leaving Letaamoreng as an assistant coach. Rumuors within the sporting fraternity started flying thick and fast that this move was simply as a result of pure jealousy.

Interference from top management was also alleged to be one of the reasons for this unfortunate incident at Police XI. On the other hand the Mahalapye born coach has dispelled the rumours saying everything happening at the team was communicated to him well on time. He said he is the assistant coach because he might go to school anytime. “The management of the team long called and informed me that they want to send me for further studies so that I can be a great coach in the future. As such they found it fit to appoint someone to the position of head coach so that the team is on the safe side when I go,” he said.

Letaamoreng made it clear that by going to school he is being groomed to be a long term head coach.
Letaamoreng also hopes that the team will do well in the coming season because they still have a core of players they had from last season. “The only player we have lost is Ndiapo Letsholathebe who has since resigned from the beautiful game. The other one is Boitumelo Modisaotisile whose contract has expired. We are still engaged in talks with him and hopefully he will agree to a new contract,” he said. Moyo on the other hand joins Police XI from Orapa United which he helped to the runners up position in the league.
