Following an eventful year of sports reporting, local sports reporters finished the 2013 year on a high after scooping the BancABC soccer tournament held at Duma FM grounds on Sunday.
The tournament featured BancABC, Celebrity FC, and Class of 1995 Zebras Under 17 team comprising the likes of; Seabo Gabanakgosi, Lesego Moeng, Barnes Maplanka and Masego Nchingane among others. The Media Zebras dominated the final, walloping Class of 1995, 3-0 to wrap up the tournament.
All the three goals came in the first half of the game courtesy of Kamogelo Madikwe (former Yarona FM), Chillyboy Rakgare (Duma FM) and Thuso Palai of Mmegi.
A better part of the second half was definitely a one sided affair with media boys showboating and teaching ‘The Dream Team’ a thing or two about the game. Earlier on, the semi finals saw the Media Zebras hammering Celebrity FC 6-3 before Class of 1995 saw off BancABC. Marketing Manager for Banc ABC called the tournament a success and said it gave them an opportunity to interact on social level not just with the media partners but also the local celebrities, and the former Zebras players.
“This is not the end,” she said. “We will sit together with the board and decide if we can turn the tournament into an annual event.” The bank donated two football kits to the Media Zebras.
BancABC launched a 3-year sponsorship deal with the Zebras back in 2012 that saw them join Orange Botswana as the secondary sponsor of the national team. The P8.3 million worth of the partnership was to run from 2012-2015.
