Man gets 10 years for raping stepdaughter

A 33-year-old man of Ramotswa who was convicted of raping his 16-year-old stepdaughter in 2008 has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Extension II Magistrate, Thabo Malambane, passed the sentence on Ofentse Botlhole when he appeared before the court on Monday.

The magistrate sentenced Botlhole after he pleaded with the court during mitigation, asking the court to be lenient on him as a first offender.

According to the state, Botlhole raped his stepdaughter in May 2008 in Dibatleng Ward in Ramotswa.
The magistrate stated that the court was surprised by his evidence that he was so aroused by his stepdaughter that he went into a state in which he could not control himself.

The magistrate noted that though Botlhole maintained that his stepdaughter consented to the act, the complainant gave a different version when she informed the court that he pounced on her and forced himself on her without her consent.

Botlhole had informed the court that he proposed for love from her stepdaughter after his wife, the mother to the complainant, refused to satisfy his sexual pleasures.

Botlhole explained that he requested his stepdaughter for help during the morning of May 5 in 2008 after her mother refused to be intimate with him.

He said that after the mother had left, he called his stepdaughter and proposed love to her.
Malambane stated that he was satisfied by the prosecution’s evidence against the Botlhole, noting that the prosecution had proved the guilt of the accused person.
