Following the resignation of Jacob Nkate from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) central committee, President Khama has appointed a Maun businessman, John Wellio, to serve as a member of the party’s high table.
Nkate quit the BDP central committee after he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA).
According to a press statement released by the BDP’s executive secretary, Batlang Serema, Welio not only replaces Nkate but will also be the central committee member for the North West Region.
Meanwhile the BDP central committee meets tomorrow after taking a break for the festive season. While party President Ian Khama is expected to give a key note address, the general secretary, Thato Kwerepe, is also expected to deliver a report. The party is also expected to discuss preparations for the National Council, which is normally held in March.
