Cordon fences, running into hundreds of kilometres cut across the length and breadth of this country. They were built to prevent the spread of animal diseases. Another purpose of the myriad cordon fences is to separate livestock from wildlife to avoid disease transmission by the latter. With that understanding, the Dibete crossing must be seen as but one barrier. It is not the only one: we have Dukwi, Makoba, Sese and, many other ones. One understands that the Dibete one is the most prominent because it intersects the A1 road which stretches from Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana and therefore serves as a key link for many settlements in Botswana.
