A number of mining towns are likely to turn into ghost towns with local economies collapsing as a number of mines which are anchor employers’ close shop – Botswana Miners Workers Union (BMWU)
Officially opening the Statutory General Council meeting in Jwaneng last week, BMWU President Joseph Tsimako said “the closure of Damtshaa and other De Beers operations is not just a corporate decision it is a national crisis that reveals the fragility of worker security. The union must look into several of these issues and make appropriate demands, these includes job losses without justice,” said Tsimako.
