Minister fails to counter assertion that 2022/23 deficit was under-reported by P3.9bn 

When she delivered a statement to parliament last Monday, Finance Minister Peggy Serame, made it very clear that she wanted to “address misinformation and/or misleading statements that are circulating in the public domain.” However, two oddities soon emerged.

Firstly, she never once identified such statements or any of the purveyors of the misinformation. Secondly, she didn’t address a contentious and highly explosive detail in a report that the Ministry of Finance will certainly aware of. While it doesn’t mention names, a quarterly publication called Economic Review dismisses a detail that Serame repeated to parliament as misleading.
