Mochudi library may change face

Two weeks ago, I received a telephone call from my sister-in-law, Gaselame Modikwe telling me that the staff at the Mochudi Library wanted to talk to me but they were handicapped by not having my telephone contacts. She is my sister-in-law due to her marriage to my younger brother, Tiego. She works in the Omang Office as registration officer. She asked for permission to give them my mobile phone number. They had told her why they needed my number and was therefore, convinced that the purpose was not for sinister motives. I gave her permission.

Within a minute or so, a person who identified herself as Elizabeth Lekorwe, a librarian, got in touch with me on the line. She wanted to know the year the Mochudi library was built and when it opened to the public. That is the part of the history of the 59-year-old building that they did not know. They were not concerned about other historical things about it.  She also informed me of plans to rebuild or expand the library and that those dates were urgently wanted at the headquarters in Gaborone.  I told her that it was built in 1963 and opened the following year. The conversation did not end there. She also spoke about the existence of library committee saying districts libraries were community entities and they wanted me to serve in that committee. I asked her to provide me with the terms of reference of the committee so that I could familiriase myself with them before deciding whether to accept or decline. I am still waiting for them.
