It is time the village of Mochudi redefined itself as the headquarters of the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela. It became so long time ago when Ramono Pilane was appointed by his elder brother, Kgosi Linchwe I to provide leadership to Moruleng following the relocation of the main morafe to Botswana fleeing from political persecution by Transvaal administrators. It remained so until in 2012 when Kgosi Kgafela II fled to South Africa and became its citizen. That was when the status of Mochudi as the headquarters began to shake with a large group which used to visit Moruleng for meetings addressed by Kgafela saying they did not mind if the two villages swapped status.
