More companies expected to list at BSE before year end

The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), is in a buoyant mood as more companies are bracing to list before the end of year, chief executive officer, Thapelo Tsheole told Sunday Standard Online.

BSE which has a market capitalisation of  P 598  billion in equities–  P 650 billion  including bonds and Exchange Trade Funds–  is expecting to welcome domestic, regional and international  companies  before the end of the year.

The valuations are in line with the bourse ambitions to hit P1 trillion in the next two to three years.

“The Botswana companies listing will be diverse saying the Agric and retail outfit will list before the end of the year,” he said on Wednesday, adding that he is also expecting a property and fertilizer companies from Namibia and Zambia respectively.

“The fertilizer and property companies are looking for main listing on the BSE,” he said.

The move comes at a time when the BSE has recorded the best trades in its history. It has made a record turn-over of P 4 billion on equity year to date resulting in the Domestic Company Index edging up 12.63 percent to 8701.85 points.

“We have done well this year. This is actually the best year in the history of BSE,” he added.

BSE started trading in November 1995 as a members-only club. It demutualized in 2015 when it moved from a member only organization to private limited company that is today called BSE Limited.
