After weeks of concentrating on national issues as a result of the national elections, focus now shifts to tribal matters where the Mochudi Tribal administration recently welcomed about five new headmen in their mist. The appointment was apparently made by the ousted Masisi administration shortly before the election. No matter what their nomenclatures may be, the bottom line is that they all perform headmaship duties which include presiding over disputes. These appointments may be seen by Mochudi as an early Christmas present to the people of Kgatleng. Among those appointed is a 22-year-old boy called Itumeleng Rammala of Morema Ward, the most senior after Kgosi ward. He holds junior certificate qualifications far ahead of his immediate predecessor. At some wards, headmen struggle to write down their names correctly. This is not amazing. Qualification to the post of bogosi is determined by birth right. Even if you have never been to school, or one is a junior certificate school leaver, he makes it to the top and becomes a leader of a community which consists of highly educated individuals.
