Morupisi, wife to appear in court

Permanent Secretary to the President Carter Morupisi is scheduled to to appear in a Gaborone Magistrate Court on Tuesday next week.

Morupisi will appear together with his wife, Pinnie Morupisi.

The duo faces three counts of abuse of office, receiving bribery and money laundering.

The charges are related to CMB which was an asset management firm working with Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund.

Morupisi has previously been chairman of the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund.

His associate, Okaile Rapula has also been charged.

Rapula was Morupisi’s private secretary.

He later was appointed Chairman of BPOPF after Morupisi left the position.

Rapula also was Chie Executive of CMB.

DCEC has confirmed that Morupisi has been charged.

The owner of CMB, Tim Marsland is in the meantime fighting extradition from South Africa to Botswana at the South African courts.

BPOPF has said Marsland has disappeared with money worth P550 million that BPOPF had given him to invest on their behalf.
