The Botswana National Front President, Otsweletse Moupo, has appointed three women to his Central Committee as additional members.
They are Happy Bashe, Kerston Marobela and Tshireletso Koie.
It has since emerged that Moupo’s offer to Lebohang Letsie last week to serve on the Central Committee was turned down.
Instead, Letsie sits on the Electoral Board.
In a new turn of events, there is increasing speculation inside the BNF that Gaborone Mayor, Harry Mothei, is about to defect to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party.
Mothei and Moupo have been at loggerheads since Mothei went against the party’s decision and stood against Nelson Ramaotwana and won.
Mothei, who was specially elected into council by Minister Margaret Nasha, was dragged before the party disciplinary committee which absolved him.
Mystery, however, surrounds what decisions will be taken by his other three co-accused councilors who had supported him against Ramaotwana.
His stay inside the BNF has not been a happy one, especially after his faction, led by former party president Kathleen Letshabo, was annihilated at the Molepolole Special Congress called by Moupo last month.
