Palapye side, Motlakase, have just bounced into the Premier League after being relegated last season.
They join rookies, Security Systems, and already questions are flying thick and fast whether they will manage to stay this time around or if they will just get relegated like many other promoted teams from the First Division.
It has been a norm for many years that teams that get promoted do not even last a season and the fortunate ones can survive for a season. Motlakase, however, are adamant that they have already learned their lessons and they will survive in the Premier League for years to come. Spokesperson for the team, Monty Gagomokgwa, told Telegraph Sports that they have capable players who will fiercely compete.
“When we got relegated we lost almost all our regular players to other teams. We did not lose focus then and started rebuilding. The youngsters that we have were built around veteran Barulaganye ‘Jomo’ Bolofete and it helped the team a great deal. This shows how good our technical team led by Oris Radipotsane is. What we intend to do as a team is to reinforce the team and retain all the players we have. This could create a healthy competition that can take the team somewhere,” he said.
When they got relegated, Motlakase did not have a suitable home ground and played all their matches away.
Gagomokgwa on the other hand said they will try to finish their ground and have home games. Now there are two teams from the Central District in the Premier League as Motlakase joins Serowe side, Miscellaneous. There is a possibility that they could be three if Mahalapye side BR Highlanders does well in the forthcoming promotional playoffs.
