Opposition Botswana National Front President Otsweletse Moupo’s wife, Grace Moupo, appeared before Francistown High Court Judge, Zibani Makhwade, on Friday seeking the court to grant her divorce from her husband.
Appearing for Moupo’s wife, attorney Phazha Kgalemang, revealed that Moupo and his wife, who have been married since 1986, had signed a settlement agreement on August 10, agreeing that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and cannot hold and were, therefore, seeking a rule nisi from the court.
However, Justice Makhwade noted that there were minor discrepancies in the papers filed before the court. For example, a certified copy of the marriage certificate had not been filed, and there was no indication of the date during which Moupo had signed the agreement. Also Moupo had signed alone and did not provide a witness.
Justice Makhwade, therefore, ruled that the court will only grant the divorce after the discrepancies had been addressed.
