Music resuscitates life!
It brings in light when times are dark. This seems like silly remarks but yes it can be a life saving mechanism.
Like they say, music is a universal language. It binds spirits and souls together across the world through the connection of rhythms and tunes.
The funny thing is that one can automatically tap their feet or fingers at the decibels of a patterned sound without even realizing it. Despite the cultural differences, religion, age, era, genre, the tunes pick each and everyone randomly.
Music is an unseen hand that touches and massages the emotions. It takes over the silence and brings in the ear to listen.
The famous Greek philosopher Plato once said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”
For many years across the world some people have used music as meditation to relieve themselves from the daily tensions of life, to try and communicate with the inner self and to the world across.
Music has been used in different places to bring in colour to life, these includes gyms, competitions, theaters, church, events and even celebrations and even in funerals.
But back to the question of life, does it contribute to reviving spirits and souls during the hardships? Many people would agree that they have once listened to songs and music from different cultures and countries even when they were sad, but still managed to tap their fingers without even comprehending the lyrics expressed in the songs.
There are different types of music, Pop, Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Reggae, Rhumba, etc but they all connect and communicate to the world through their different tunes and rhythms.
Experts around the world have proved that music has contributed a lot even in the academic field. One academic at the University of California in the United States of America, Professor Frances Rauscher, states that in his research, music lessons have been shown to improve the children’s performance in school. He stated in his report that 8 months after keyboard lessons, pre-scholars tested and showed a 46% boost in their IQ, which is crucial for higher brain functions such as in complex subjects like mathematics and other sciences.
In his words, a famous scientist Albert Einstein once said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music and I see my life in music and I get most joy in life out of music.”
When Einstein was asked about his theory of relativity he said, “It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception.”
This clearly shows the massive force behind music, the unforeseen power that it has over people’s daily lives. Some religions believe that music is a sacred aspect that is next to prayer or meditation. They believe that music is of paramount importance and they assimilate it to a direct route or shortcut towards a goal.
Music is regarded as a road that is clear and pure of any dirt or obstacles towards a destination. Most of the times the senses of humans are restless due to the daily pressures of life, when this happens the mind suffers and the mind becomes doubtful. The mind does not have a sole obligation to discipline the senses alone and therefore music can be used to intervene and come to the rescue.
The senses can be soothed by music when they are overworked and become calm and at ease. Through the different instruments, guitars, violins, drums, clapping hands, natural voices, trumpets and even flutes, life can be revived through music. Even in movies it does contribute immensely through the soundtracks.
They compliment the emotions in the movies through different types of tunes and this brings life to the viewers’ senses and the message and theme in the movie is then clearly projected. Even composers and music producers find solace in music.
Music has clearly proved to be an element needed by humans during the times of adversity and hardships.
It plays a role in different aspects of human kind be it happiness or sadness.
