This Friday, the Botswana National Museum will commemorate International Museum Day at its premises in Gaborone.
The event will be opened by the new Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Ms Gladys Kokorwe.
The theme that will be carried this year is “Museum As Agents of Social Change and Development.”
On the same occasion, the museum will also launch two of its strategies geared towards seeking partnerships with the public to preserve Botswana’s heritage. The first strategy is the “Adopt-a-Monument”, which encourages the business community, Non-Governmental Organizations to participate in the management of heritage sites.
The second strategy that will be launched on the International Museum Day will be the “Friend of the Museum” society. That will help the museum in development through raising funds to support its operations in areas such as research, enhancement of the development of the various museum related disciplines.
The museum will also launch a revamped radio programme and newsletter, which are aligned with the mandate of the Department and the interests of its clientele.
This year’s commemoration will also be part of Botswana Museum’s own 40th anniversary build up towards celebrations in October.
