No sponsors … BVF league stalemate

Uncertainty continues to cloud the commencement of the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) League as new sponsors are not coming up.

Ever since the departure of erstwhile league sponsors Mascom Wireless, the BVF leadership has been running around to find new funders to no avail.

The search for sponsorship is said to have commenced when the three-year sponsorship between Mascom and BVF expired in 2015.

“We did not start seeking only after Mascom announced that they were not renewing, it started long before. Even the committee prior to the current one has been looking for sponsors,” said BVF spokesperson Kagiso Meswele.

Meswele said negotiations with potential sponsors are ongoing but refused to divulge their identity.

In the meantime, Meswele said the league would not start, at least until such time that the BVF has found sponsors.

“We have been meeting with potential sponsors and only until things have been worked out will the league start,” Meswele explained.

Meswele said so far, the teams had shown that they were ready to start.

He said the BVF had registered a new club for this season and there had been no withdrawal by any team.

Meanwhile, the BVF has managed to lure back Capital Motors to once again sponsor the annual Capital BMW Tournament. The local motor dealership giants had also ditched the BVF in the same year with Mascom.

Meswele said they expected the tournament to start in the near future, with the draw set for tomorrow (Monday).
