Nurses’ Union calls for Health PS to resign

The Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) has called for immediate resignation of Permanent Secretary (PS) Professor Oathokwa Nkomazana and Secretary for Primary Health Care Dr. Ramotsababa, citing a pattern of discrimination, mismanagement, and neglect towards nurses and midwives within the Ministry of Health (MoH).

In a strongly worded statement, BONU accused the Ministry’s leadership of fostering a “discriminatory and negative attitude” towards nurses and midwives, who form the backbone of the healthcare workforce. The union claims that top management positions within the Ministry are disproportionately held by a specific cadre, marginalizing nurses and midwives. BONU argues that any objective assessment of the situation would find it “highly likely” that the current leadership is biased against the nursing profession.
