A Zimbabwean illegal immigrant believed to be on the police wanted list was allegedly shot to death by security agents and his corpse left to rot on a street pavement.
The corpse of the illegal immigrant, who was allegedly wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies and house break-ins was found by a passerby with his head blown off.
It is understood that sometime last week, security agents who were on a night patrol received a call that criminals had broken into three houses around Block 8 in Gaborone.
The Security agents, armed with AK 47 assault riffles, ran to the scene. When they got there, they found a number of suspects and immediately opened fire, shooting one of the suspects in the head. The suspect allegedly died on the spot.
On realizing that they had killed one of the suspects, the security agents left the corpse at the scene. The corpse was found by a passerby the following day, who reported his find to the police.
Botswana Police Service Public Relations Officer, Senior Superintendent Christopher Bylaw, told Sunday Standard that an unknown man was on the 4th of this month found dead in Gaborone Block 8.
He said police investigations are underway to determine circumstances surrounding his death.
Meanwhile, there are reports that United Nations officials are expected in Botswana soon to investigate human rights abuses, especially by security agents.
