Officials fight over artists’ millions?

National Arts Council of Botswana Chief Executive Officer Shombie Ellis has been placed on suspension just as Botswana artists multi- million- pula grants cycle begins – and that is the point.

There are whispers among local artists’ that Ellis’ 90 day suspension is a slight of hand to close here out of the grants adjudication where decisions on where and how to spend the artists money will be made.

A number of artists who are close to the controversy told Sunday Standard that Ellis was pushed out because she was standing between artists’ money and “some greedy board members’ pockets”.
