Only 33% of children Under-five receive early childhood education

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has presented a bleak image of early childhood education (ECE) in Botswana, highlighting the scope of the problem and the need to address it. According to the agency, nearly seven out of ten children under the age of five in Botswana do not have access to early education.

“Sixty-seven per cent of children in Botswana under the age of 5 years do not have access to early childhood education (ECE),” notes UNICEF, which is mandated to protect the rights of every child, everywhere, especially the most disadvantaged.

According to UNICEF, early education is becoming a global policy priority, particularly in upper-middle-income countries such as Botswana, where there is a growing commitment to invest in the youngest learners.
