On Thursday, October 15th, the Orange Foundation donated school equipment to Kagiso Senior Secondary School students and staff. Speaking at the handover event, Orange PR and Foundation Manager, Boga Chilinde-Masebu, said the project was part of the organisation’s initiative to give back to the community, stating that Orange Employee Volunteering Week was founded in 2012, with the intention of giving back to the community.Their main focus this year was education.In order to raise funds, Orange Foundation along with its employees hosted a Zumba and autograph session. The funds raised from the show were then used to buy school equipment for Kagiso Senior Secondary School.
“Our week with the students commenced on Monday. We carried out a career fair and encouraged representatives from different Orange Botswana departments to enlighten and educate students on the careers they wish to pursue. Tuesday was ICT day and we taught students the basics to ICT such as how to switch on the computer and use various softwares like Microsoft word, power point, excel and so forth,” said Orange Public Relations Officer, Carol Kgafela. She added that Wednesday was a very educative day as students made up of groups of five competed in Math and Science quiz were the winners won themselves a Smartphone each.Thursday wrapped up the project with school equipment comprising of two printers with toners, Smartphones, a board game for Maths and Science, revision and novel books, 20 dustbins and a notice board being handed over to the school by Orange brand ambassadors. The Chairman of Kagiso Senior Parents Teachers Association, Tshekiso Sorinyane highly praised the gesture saying: “We have this week witnessed Orange Botswana and with that new big things are coming our way. This is a door opener for us. Orange has planted a seed which we will continue to water as a blessed school,” he said.Orange PR and Foundation Manager, Boga Chilinde-Masebu urged students saying:
“It has been interesting to meet with the students, to motivate them, as well as impart some knowledge on the different topics during the week. I must say the reception from the students has been amazing. They held on to every word that was spoken with keen interest and eagerness.”
In its 4th year running now, Orange Employee Volunteering Week has since inception made the Ext12 recreational park operational, refurbished the Tlokweng Tlamelong Rehabilitation centre, in 2013, and refurbished the Tsholofelong, Marang a Letsatsi, a rehabilitation centre for street involved children in Old Naledi in 2014.
