Orange has announced its improved Orange Money Visa Card which is accepted internationally. The existing Orange Money Card was launched in 2013 in partnership with Visa inc. The evolution of the card is in line with Orange’s continued effort to promote financial inclusion and bring financial services even closer to Batswana.
Orange Money Director, Seabelo Pilane says from the beginning of their development, they have seen the exceptional growth and performance of the service over the years.
“Through the partnership of Orange and Visa Inc., we have afforded over 530 000 subscribers an opportunity to participate in financial transactions thereby contributing to Batswana everyday wellbeing-especially in the case or customers without bank accounts,” said Pilane.
He added that as at June 2016, Orange Money Visa cards accounted 24% of the debit cards in Botswana market and expected this figure to grow with the introduction of their enhanced Visa card.
“We would like to bring more partners on board with Orange Money, increasing the functionality of Orange Money. There is definitely more to come from our Orange Money platform,” he said.
The services allow Orange Money subscribers easy access to funds 24 hours a day, customers just need to deposit money into their Orange Money wallet and can swipe or make cash withdrawals in their travels outside Botswana.
“To date, we are the only telecommunications company that has the Visa card as a part of their mobile banking offering,” Orange Money Product Manager Yvonne Abram said.
“We would like to bring more partners on board with Orange Money, increasing the functionality of Orange Money. There is definitely more to come from our Orange Money platform,” she said.
However the Visa card has not changed much as it still purchases the maximum amount of P4000. Beside international access the new Orange Money Visa Card has the new card design, chip and pin functionality.
Abram says the existing card is still available at Orange shops and distributed nationwide but for starters the new card is only available at their Orange shops only, as international fees are a bit higher than local ones because of added convenience and the benefit.
“However as an incentive to you and our valued subscribers we will issue the card for a limited period of time only, we will only be applying local fees so that they enjoy and get used to the card and enjoy its benefits before applying international service fees,” she said.
