Orapa readying new shopping spree

BTC Premier League teams have already upped the tempo as they are engaged on a massive recruitment of new players to beef up the squads before the commencement of the new season.

One such team is Orapa United which is planning heavy player recruitment for the current transfer window period ahead of the 2018/19 season. The Boteti based outfit has already released a considerable number of its senior players perceived to be old by the standard of the team’s management.

The players released include Patrick Lenyeletse, Ronald Chikomo, Kemmy Pilato and Mosimanegape Robert. In an interview, Orapa United spokesperson, Kabo William confirmed that they have released players and they had to replace them with the ‘young blood.’ He explained that the four players contracts were not renewed after the lapse of their engagement with Orapa.

“All players released are over 34 years. We wanted young players and we believe that the boys we are bringing into the team will have the energy we want,” William said.

The Ostriches as Orapa United is known to its legion of fans have lured players from Tafic and Miscellaneous sporting clubs.

“We have registered former Tafic Left winger, Onkemetse Powe and Bophelo Kealeboga, goalkeeper from Miscellaneous,” William revealed. Kealeboga and Powe were key players at their former clubs and indications are that roping them into Orapa is expected to turn around the team’s fortunes.

The new players are said to be what the team needs to breathe life into it and improve chances of winning the league.

Orapa also signed a two year contract with Coach Mogomotsi Mpote who will be assisting Bongani Mafu. Mpote was the assistant coach at Township Rollers and was released after the just ended season.  Orapa is expected to still look for other players to beef up its various departments before the end of the closure of the registration period.
