Parliament Passes a Motion to Investigate Botswana’s Afcon Bid ‘Scam’

A common consensus among Botswana’s legislators is that the country’s failed bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) was a scam intended to swindle public funds.

Botswana’s parliament last week adopted a motion to investigate the failed bid which cost the country millions of pulas. Legislators who commented on the motion could not find decent words to describe the bid. Some of those who commented were of the opinion that it was a corruption or looting exercise.
