Police commissioner issues alert on cyber crime

The Commissioner of Police, Keabetswe Makgophe, has alerted police commanders from the Operations Division on cyber crime.

The Commissioner told commanders that as they draw strategies of how to deal with crime in their policing areas, they should also consider ways of dealing with trans-national organised crime, especially thatwhich involve the use of cyber space.

He said criminals take advantage of the ever evolving global communication network to commit crime within and beyond borders.

The commissioner observed that effective use of intelligence remains crucial and it is through intelligence information sharing that the police can successfully crack down on criminal syndicates. He noted that contemporary policing revolves around building strategic partnerships towards crime prevention.

The commissioner implored the commanders to employ analytical thinking and planning in order to have a firm control of their crime in their policing areas.

The performance review was geared towards assessing operational performance of the Botswana Police Service for the past year.
