In the past twelve months leading up to October 2024, the Botswana Pula has demonstrated a varied performance against major global currencies, setting the stage for its trajectory as the country anticipates new leadership under Duma Boko. Over the year, the Pula declined by 4.3 percent against the South African rand but strengthened by 0.9 percent against the IMF’s Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket, which is composed of several significant international currencies. Within the SDR basket, the Pula appreciated 4 percent against the US dollar, 2.1 percent against the Japanese yen, and 0.2 percent against the euro, while declining against the British pound by 4.3 percent and the Chinese renminbi by 0.3 percent.
